LOVE LETTERS/Lettere d'amore photographs 107 x 147 cm 2007
The LOVE LETTERS (2007) series (here are shown a few examples of a much larger series) came about by chance. Last summer I began an early morning regime of power walking near my house and I stumbled, literally, onto these writings or graffiti. As I was walking I was thinking about the exact same things that these graffiti were passionately expressing with letters on asphalt or on the side on buildings. I began to consciously search for these writings and I was intrigued that their authors felt so strongly the desire to communicate and try and make permanent, and public for that matter, a feeling as ephemeral as Love. Their unguarded expression of attraction, anger, affection, or rejection and above all LOVE (usually below, really) was refreshing and comforting.
La serie Lettere d'Amore (2007) è nata per caso. L'estate scorsa, nell'intraprendere un programma di marce mattutine a passo sostenuto nei dintorni della mia abitazione, ho inciampato, cadendo letteralmente su queste scritte o graffiti. Camminando, mi ritrovai a pensare esattamente alle stesse cose che questi graffiti esprimevano con tanta passione, attraverso lettere tracciate sull'asfalto o sui muri dei palazzi. Così. ho iniziato coscientemente a cercarli: ero affascinata dall'idea che i loro autori sentissero un desiderio così potente di comunicare, di rendere permanente, e pubblico, un sentimento effimero come l'Amore. Il loro sincero modo d'esprimere l'attrazione, la rabbia, l'affetto, il rifiuto e soprattutto l'AMORE (sotto a tutto, in realtà) era confortante e ristoratore.
